Berrie Center Policy Updates:
Refills, Appointments & Cancellations, After Hours Calls

The following policies are now in place at the Berrie Center. 

Medication Refills
Please email BerrieRx@cumc.columbia.edu for all prescription requests. Do not cc your provider on the email. Include name, DOB, exact name of medication requested and amount, 30 or 90 day supply, and the pharmacy or mail order you would like the prescription sent to. Allow 3 business days for all refill requests. Allow 2 weeks for any prescription requiring a prior authorization. Stay alert to how much insulin and other diabetes supplies you have at home so that you have plenty of time to get refills.
Medication refill requests outside of office hours (Monday to Friday 9am-5pm) will incur a $25.00 fee unless there is an unusual situation. Please check with your pharmacy BEFORE calling after hours to see if you have refills available. If you call after hours and have active refills available that will automatically incur a $25.00 fee.

If you must call after hours for an emergency refill, you must provide the name of the patient, DOB, and name and phone number of the pharmacy to the answering service. Your call will not be put through to the doctor on call without this information.
If you have not been here within the past year, we cannot refill any medications.

Appointments and Cancellations
There is a $100.00 fee for a no-show or cancellation within 24 hours for a new visit or pump start. There is a $50.00 fee for a no-show or cancellation within 24 hours for a follow-up visit.
New visits are one hour and follow up visits are 30 minutes. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to go through the lab. This will allow you to maximize your time with your provider. If you arrive late, your provider may only be able to see you until the start time of their next appointment. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment. Please be respectful of your provider’s time and that of other patients.
After three missed appointments, we reserve the right to ask you to find a different provider.

After Hours Answering Service
We are open Monday through Friday 9am - 5pm. The answering service after hours is for true medical emergencies only. If you call after hours with a non-urgent situation or question, you will be asked to call back during regular business hours. Repeated non-emergency calls will incur a fee of $50.00.
