Policy Update: Billing for Phone Calls and Emails

Because of the changes in healthcare delivery mandated during the Coronavirus Pandemic, insurers are now reimbursing for medical care provided during video-visits, telephone calls and emails.

Therefore, the Berrie Center, in addition to billing for video-visits, will now be billing for phone calls and emails at which non-urgent diabetes related medical advice is provided. This will include:

-discussions related to blood sugar management
-medication changes
-nutritional counseling
-technology advice

Please note that this does not apply to requests for prescription refills and other essential communications. Patients will be made aware when there is a charge associated with the interaction.
